*Garden Lotion Bar
When we first launched our lotion bar, nothing like it was on the market. I guess that’s why we sold out in just a few days. Since then I am seeing more brands embrace the idea of a bar to use for lotion, just like the shampoo and conditioner bars and I have to say it is really cool to see this happening.
Our first bar, a lemongrass and calendula infused option is still a favorite - and we will be making more as we harvest our calendula but this garden bar is absolutely delightful and 100% seasonal BECAUSE we use fireweed flowers that only come out once a year!
Ever since we moved to the Cariboo in 2021, I’ve been wanting to create something with this fantastic flower that grows wild and abundant where wildfires once were. They are the first sign of regrowth and reestablishing the soil as they are perennial and come back year after year.
As an option for skincare, fireweed is useful for helping with skin irritations like psoriasis, eczema, acne, skin rashes, ulcers, burns, and wounds. You can use the leaves and the flowers, for ours we just used every other flower but next year we plan on using the entire plant.
We also infused our homegrown lavender leaf in avocado oil for a period of three weeks and used our incredible organic and fair trade shea butter that we use in our facecream as the base. With the addition of organic beeswax and a few of our favorite scents, we’ve created our second lotion bar to offer our customers, and we are of course keeping one for ourselves.
This bar was special as well, as I made it with my niece Amaya, who was in staying with us and who not only loves everything I make (as does her mom) but she is also interested in the process and gardening. It’s amazing when you can share your passion/obsession with someone who wants to learn as well, someone you can influence and teach too.
If you have not tried a lotion bar, well it’s time to start. As with our facecream, you just need to apply a little heat to the bar for it to work well, and you're done. Those cracked heels, rub some on - then put on socks and sleep for the night keeping all that moisture locked in.
I’ll definitely be making this one again next year, but for now, if you want to be one of a few who get to enjoy this bar order today online or come to the south Cariboo garlic festival this weekend and grab one along with a facial oil for yourself!
